The SGI Octane case that I modified was a bit rough with scratches and marks, something that is expected given its age, so I thought I could wrap the base of it in some carbon fibre vinyl to make it look more modern and cover up the scratches.

First thing I removed the base, here it is sitting on top of the carbon fibre vinyl.

I didn't need to cover the whole base so I just cut out enough vinyl to wrap around the edges.

The vinyl just sticks onto the plastic.

I used a hair dryer to help mould the vinyl around the base as I wrapped it around.

Eventually I had all the surface around the base covered.

Putting the case back together, it looks quite impressive.

I thought about covering the rest of the case in green carbon fibre vinyl, but I'm not sure how good that would look.
