Making an Apple Store inspired desk for the home officeEver since moving from a city apartment to a house in the suburbs, I wanted to make myself a big, long, desk for my home office. I wanted something with bulky edges like the desks at the Apple Store, but I didn't want wooden legs. So I've decided to build this...

Upcycling - A shattered glass outdoor table to a nice wooden balcony feature pieceI've not done a whole lot of woodwork lately but recently my hand has been forced when our outdoor glass table shattered and left a nasty mess of glass all over the balcony. Not wanting to throw the whole thing out, I decided the situation can be salvaged with, which I thought at the time, would be a temporary cover made out of plywood. However, after getting started on the project I realised that it can be made into something nice and more permanent.

One day build - DIY Garden Storage Seat Made from Fence Palings, Foam and CanvasTo compliment the garden bench I made a while back we decided to make a cushioned garden seat that could back up as storage at the same time. Both were to serve as our outdoor seating at the apartment. This was the end result...it turned out a little lumpy on the cushioning but given it was our first time trying this out I think the end result turned out quite good.

Upcycled bridge timber breakfast bar construction and installOn the mission to make as much room as possible in our apartment we decided that the dining table that we hardly ever used had to go and it was going to be replaced by a breakfast bar attached to the kitchen bench. It took a few visits to various timber yards to find the right slab of wood and I'm glad we looked around. The slab we found was a piece of old bridge timber, was already run through a thickening planer and had a rough sanding. It was perfect. Over the course of about a month I completed the breakfast bar and then we finally installed it.

Hardwood garden bench with clear resin void filler (part 2)This is part 2 of the post about the garden bench I built. If you missed part 1, read it here. In part 1 I got as far as describing the origins of this wood, the huge void it had and how I used water-clear polyester resin to fill it. I also described how I removed all the excess resin after curing and touched on the sanding process.

Hardwood garden bench with clear resin void filler (part 1)I had a piece of hardwood left over from when I built my TV unit. This piece of wood was large enough to have two people sit on it comfortably, so it was suggested to me to make it into a garden bench. However this piece had a huge void running down one of its sides, which I decided to fill with water-clear polyester resin, same as all my other wood working projects.

I've also put up a full gallery of photos showing the construction process.

DIY Hardwood Coffee Table made out of recycled wood (part 4)This is a coffee table I made out of recycled hardwood that I purchased from The Big Red Shed. I had some help from my dad on the metalwork side of things, but the rest was all done over several weeks between work by me. This was my first project of this kind and was meant to be as an experiment. There were some epic failures during the creation of this coffee table, but the end result is still quite amazing!
